Rob Astrop

A person in long term recovery since April 3, 1983. He is retired from a career as a Financial Advisor. He has a BA in Psychology from UVA, an MBA degree from the U of R, and a Master of Science degree from Virginia Commonwealth University. He is the Chairman of the Addiction Recovery Political Action Committee (ARPAC). He has been active in working directly with those recovering from substance use disorder and organizations dedicated to recovery. Rob is married to Cecil and has 3 grown sons.

Braxton Collier

Braxton is a family member that lost his son to addiction.  He speaks on the impact his family went through and some policy solutions to the addiction epidemic!

Christopher (Cricket) Ronquest

From Hanover County, VA,  For nearly two decades, he continued to use substances uncontrollably until The McShin Foundation began a substance abuse program in Pamunkey Regional Jail, where he was incarcerated at the time. Cricket continues on his pathway of recovery by helping  others like him. Since his graduation and release in August of 2015 he has not been arrested.Cricket is the proud father of Caden and Colton  and gets to enjoy being an active member of his family and community.

Angela Gottwald

Angela Gottwald is a proud Board Member of McShin as well as mother to an alum of the McShin program.

Angela attended Mountain Empire Community college and UVA at Wise in Southwest Virginia. Angela has volunteered for East Tennessee Hospice, St Michaels library as well as Henrico Christmas Mother. 

Angela is married to John Gottwald and a proud mother of four. When she is not driving a child somewhere or volunteering you will find her in Montpelier working on her 1890s dream farmhouse.

Gary Howe

Gary worked 3 years with the FBI support and 5 years with the Alexandria City Police Dept. Gary acquired his BS in Judicial Administration, AA in Accounting, MBA and finally CPA. He also drove for the Spotsylvania County School System five years prior to retiring to Kissimmee, FL where he now works part time, writes, volunteers and heads to the national park areas to work for the summers. From 2004 to current, Gary has been a caregiver and support for his son who has been dealing with addiction.

Lisa Kratz Thomas

Lisa has given lots of people the courage to change by sharing her stirring account of survival from drug addiction, prostitution, and incarceration.She went from living on the streets in our nation’s capital, to being appointed to a Senate Sub-Committee that studied prisoner re-entry in VA. During her tenure on this committee she submitted 3 pieces of legislation that later became state law.She continues to visit multiple correctional centers in the state of VA facilitating re-entry seminars. 

Kenneth Holmberg

A Virginia gentleman, born, raised, and educated right here in Virginia.  Now retired from corporate America working to counter the ill effects of substance abuse.  I am the father of two adult children who are opioid addicts.
